This assignment was very fun for me to figure out how to incorporate learning into a powerpoint that was nonlinear. I came up with a choose your own adventure story as my idea because I figured this would be engaging enough for second or third graders. I thought this assignment was thought provoking in a good way, and I am glad that it was assigned to me. One thing I didn't like about the assignment was the slide limit, as I felt I had to add more to the story than was necessary to meet that requirement, but it wasn't  necessarily difficult to do that.

Survey tools are not something I thought I would be using until this question was asked of me. As a 12th grade teacher for psychology, I feel as though I would be able to use surveys in order to improve my teaching skills, based on what students wanted me to do instead of doing what I had planned. I could use a survey to gauge what students want from me as a teacher, and I can choose to do what they ask if I believe it to be helpful to them. I would have to weigh the pross and cons of what they say, and I could teach in a certain style they want, if it has more pros than cons.

The idea of reviewing others' blogs is an interesting thing as a topic because I found it helpful to see what others planned for their classrooms. Since this is an online class, I also found myself feeling more included by reacting to what other classmates were saying in their blogs. One specific topic I liked reading about was seeing Savannah's PLN. I thought it was beautifully designed and it helped me complete my assignment by using hers as inspiration.

My experiences with the tech flex challenges are nonexistent because I have yet to complete one. This goes with the digital badges as well as I have none to show. I find extra work for a reward of a token, to make sense, only if I actually need another token. For the participation portfolio assignment, I may complete some challenges in order to get a token to skip an item in the portfolio.

I want to learn how to code in basic terms. I think it would be helpful in creating my own website, or mini games for my students to play and learn about the topics I am teaching. I believe Khan academy has free access to coding lessons so I could pursue my teachings through them. I also believe there are numerous other free websites that can teach me how to code in case I do not like Khan Academy.

  1. Hey Jake,

I like the cover photo for Todd the Frog, it already looks like an interesting piece. I also think creating mini games or a website that would help students grasp the subject in which one teaches is a very important concept. I have heard about khan academy and have seen the plethora of options a student has when working on their particular subject. Khan has helped so many kids and any website that has the impact such as this, would be an asset to any classroom.

  2. Hi Jake,

I think surveys are a great way to gauge interest. However, a unique challenge that my arise teaching 12th grade is getting students to complete them. What are your thoughts on this?
