Blog Post #9
I was an online section for this semester and it was asynchronous. I find this type of class to be my favorite, because I can decide when in the week I want to worry about the assignments and when to complete them. I did not necessarily dislike anything about the class structure itself, moreso some of the content seemed like things I would not need to know for my future classroom experience. I am hoping when I am a teacher, I won't have to worry about an online classroom, but if it came to it, I would try to offer bi-weekly optional zoom sessions for those who may need it. I would work with students to figure out the best times for them to come to the meetings.
Open education resources are essentially any research or teaching materials that are in the open public domain, meaning they can be accessed and used by anyone with a computer. I found an article about a University in Wyoming that is going to launch a journal of different open education resources in order to foster a better sense of higher education. I find it important that more and more universities do this, because there shouldn't be a paywall to fight through in order to read research. This is true especially in a world that is so undereducated. I feel as though a lot of problems would be solved or at least easier to solve, if all research was published for free and was easily accessible by the general population.
Unfortunately, I was unable to complete Assignment 4, but as I am currently working on Assignment 5 which is similar to assignment 4, I can say that I have learned, and am currently learning a lot of different skills within Powerpoint. I didn't like the idea of creating your own format slide, along with using animations because I was taught that professional powerpoints should not have animations in them. I did like the creative freedom to choose any topic I wanted to though. Also there is no screenshot I can include unfortunately.
Hey Jake,
ReplyDeleteI also did not turn in the assignment on time but did take a crack at it later on. Life got very busy and I just didn't make the deadline. Once I started it, it was pretty easy. I wrote the prof and explained the situation and she was very helpful and understood that life happens. Maybe try and reach out to her and see where it goes from there. Best of luck to you in the teaching realm. I know that this country is in great need of teachers. I hope to be a teacher by next school year.
